On life’s pathway, we often encounter individuals on the periphery of our existence. On our way to work or school or just going about our daily activities, we see, or sometimes barely see, people who flit across our consciousness. Yet, for some of us, they touch a chord which transcends the ordinary. These people represent an arc in the circle of life, a part of our shared humanity that cannot be ignored. In some ways these people become us with our triumphs and failures. SKETCHES: PEOPLE–WATCHING IN THE U S of A is about these people, the lost and the found, people who are just like us regardless of the trappings in which we sometimes swaddle ourselves. Although I may not know these individuals by name, they touch my humanity; they are a part of me as much as I am a part of them.
